With every weighted blanket sale, Washington College supports Autism Speaks. However, Autism Speaks is actually not as helpful to autistic people as you may think. 

Autism Speaks is not run by autistic people.

They promote the idea that having autism is terrible and causes suffering.

They ignore autistic voices.

When a parent murders their autistic child, Autism Speaks empathizes with the murderer and demonizes the child.

Autism Speaks views autism as a disease that needs to be “cured,” but really, autistic people do not want to be “cured,” because autism is a part of us!

In reality, autism is not such a terrible thing, and it makes me who I am. Believe me, an autistic person, when I say that Autism Speaks is a hate group.
