The NAACP is the oldest civil rights organization in the US history. Starting a college chapter at W&L is crucial both to the community within W&L students and members of the Lexington community that is watching— especially BIPOC youth. The NAACP can offer educational and community building opportunities to the W&L community. Likewise, it can offer a safe place for students in minority groups to unify and understand their rights. Additionally, it can educate allies and those with questions about how they can support minority groups on a local and national level. And with W&L’s history, it is crucial that the addition of a college chapter of the NAACP is a step to rectify and promote new history that is beneficial to diverse and minority students.
