Emily Zimmerman, the Warwick School Board, and Administrative staff have been called to account for her racist remarks, but no acknowledgement or apology has been given.  She is an elected official who represents an entire community, not just the white majority.  Almost 20% of our student body identify as non-white and her remarks have directly alienated them.  Her desire to remove parts of curriculum that are inclusive further demonstrates her desire to white wash our schools and shows her disdain for people of color and the issues that impact them.

In a review given by Emily Zimmerman of a vacation her family took to the Dominican Republic in 2021 she stated, "Things we didn't prefer for our family: LARGE influx of Nationals on the weekend, completely changed the dynamics of the resort atmosphere..."  If she does not want People of Color around her family while on vacation, how does she feel about them being in class with her children? 

In an attempt to have the book “All American Boys” by Brendan Kiely and Jason Reynolds, removed from the school curriculum, she states, "CRT tends to ignore that family structure, educational attainment, and workforce participation are the primary drivers of inequality."  This belief shows her ignorance on the factors that drive poverty and inequality.  It demonstrates the racist myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps,” and the racist belief that family structure is a factor in inequality.  Is this what she believes about our community members who do not have as much money as her?  They should just work harder and be married?

Mrs. Zimmerman is a member of Moms For Liberty Lancaster.  Moms For Liberty (MFL) is an organization with chapters that have offered a $500 bounty for individuals who turn in teachers they believe are teaching CRT.  They target teachers and schools in an attempt to intimidate them using divisive and threatening tactics and want to remove any reference to equity, diversity, tolerance, and inclusion.  Her actions have shown that she is on the board to push the MFL agenda, not to represent the diversity of students and beliefs that exist within our district.

In a post from Mrs. Zimmerman that dates back to 2014, she complains about not being able to straighten her hair and uses the hashtag #nappyhairprobs.  This direct insult to people of color will not be tolerated.  The age of this post demonstrates that her bias is deeply rooted and ingrained into her belief system.

She has stated her belief that the Black Lives Matter movement is a hate group.  This is a racist construct that has proven to be entirely inaccurate.  Right now Black Lives are hurting and need support, not attacks and bigotry. 

Let's show our community that Black Lives DO Matter.  Remove Emily Zimmerman from the school board and replace her with someone who represents our community as a whole.
