Batman is one of the most iconic characters. He has been inspiring people of all ages from the comic books to the portrayal in animation and movies. Batman has been always for everyone. Recently the BBFC the film board of the UK has rated the new batman movie 15. The movie is 15 it is very mindboggling a Batman movie got a 15 how is this movie as the same league as other violent movies such a the new suicide squad movie or a horror film. Those movies always had the intent for the adult audience but the new batman movie had always had the intent for kids and adults in mind with a pg 13 rating which the UK equivalent is 12a.  This is  the case shown by the marketing and the directors and studio intent of the film also the past batman movies or superhero films also the films rating around the world. 

First lets talk about the marketing you might have seen in stores the new batman movie has lego sets at first glance you would think the movie would be 12 as they are making toys for kids but Legos have a deeper reason why they choose specific brands or movie to join with. Lego brand has a rule of choosing kid friendly brands or movies in mind so the batman movie has been reviewed by Lego so they did know the movie would be in the pg 13 /12a age rating around the world so they authorized new sets for the movie also they would not partner with r rated brands as it would take away from the family friendly brand image. Also the movie has its own toy line which has the age range of 3 + these type of toy lines only for 12a movies also junior novel and children learning books have been made for the movie which heavily implies the movie would be 12a if the movies content is inappropriate it would be difficult to make junior novels and learning books. Also Batman oreos have been made for the movies and oreos is a family friendly brand it would not partner with the batman movie as that would also take away from the family friendly image they have like legos.

Second point the movie intent and directors intent this movie was intended to be a next version of batman for the next generation and in recent interviews they spoke to Robert Pattison how he is going to be the next batman that kids are going to grow up with also the studio and matt reeves have always aimed to go for pg 13 rating around the world which is further proved by my last point.

Third point is the rating for the movie around the world. The movie has been rated pg 13 in the US and also most around the world. Also our next door neighbor Ireland has rated the movie 15a which seems confusing at first glance  but the rating means anyone under the age of 15 needs an adult to watch the movie with them just like a strongerish  12a if you remember the dark knight that was also rated 15a in Ireland where during that time the BBFC rated the dark knight 12a which they refused to backtrack but it seems BBFC is being inconsistent with their ratings at all as this movie seems very similar to the dark knight for the stuff that happens in the movie. If you read the description for the movie it seems 12a for the most part there isent large amount of gore or violence like a gore movie it looks like what you would see in the dark knight and some marvel movies. Also in countries where content is heavily rated gave the batman a pg13 or 12a.

Fourth point brings the third point together also if the movie is not fully appropriate for kids under 15 there should be some cuts this would not be the first time BBFC had done this both hobbit and the lord of the ring movies had some cuts to be 12a at the cinemas. Also Harry Potter Deathly Hallow Part 1 the movie made form children's book nearly got a 15 for a torture which had to make some cuts to make the scenes less intense for it to be 12a. Many other movies had cuts to be 12a.

In conclusion the batman movie should be 12a in the end batman has been both for kids and adults its disheartening that the BBFC is restricting from parents and kids to see the movie. I dont know why warner bros UK is not commenting on the situation as UK is one of the largest markets for the DC brand. They could just ask for advice on what to cut from the film I am sure this would not impact the films enjoyment as lords of the rings and hobbit and other movies were very enjoyable with some cuts. Only other superhero genre movies that have been rated 15 in the UK were about villain's and antiheroes. This is about a hero that saves people who does not kill people these type of movies teach kids good life lessons and also being fun for the family. It will be heartbreaking for families and kids who go to the batman movie only to be refused by the theater  and leaving upset and shocked family's in the UK. Also parents who find out it is a 15 will have to tell their kids they cant watch the movie that they have been waiting for. While kids around the world can watch it. In the end of the rating is not fair.
