The New York Times recently published an article by Charles Blow stating “Racism must be exorcised from culture, including, or maybe especially, from children’s culture.” And referenced Speedy Gonzales...”whose friends helped popularize the corrosive stereotype of the drunk and lethargic Mexicans”

While true that Speedy was most likely initially created with racist and biased undertones, we Hispanic people have embraced Speedy and do not consider him, his catch phrases, or his mannerisms as racist or detrimental to the progress of the Latino culture or our countless contributions to the world as a whole. 

In a time increasingly fueled by Cancel Culture, we preemptively establish our support of Speedy Gonzales and request that Warner Brothers Entertainment DO NOT honor any present or future demands to remove Speedy from the Looney Tunes cast nor any appearances he has in current or future projects.
