Re-Open Neighborhood Walmart in Chesterfield, VA
Being a resident of Chesterfield, VA for over 10+ years I can tell when a change for the area was a good or bad decision. Walmart opened a neighborhood Walmart on Ironbridge Road on September 9th, 2015 and it was placed right in front of Meridian Watermark Apartments & Homes which was the perfect location and also had a gas station and shortly after Wendy’s joined the shopping center. On March 29, 2019 Walmart decided to abruptly close this location which truly shocked everyone in the area! This part of Ironbridge Road which is right near Chesterfield Courthouse and 288 has so many new neighborhoods and businesses opening as well as Chesterfield widening the road due to the amount of traffic within this area and it was the wrong time for them to close this Walmart location. Martins also closed down the street from Walmart due to being bought out by Publix and it was supposed to transition into a Publix but due to the pandemic that was placed on hold and it didn’t happen and now people are having to drive out to get to the Chester Walmart Supercenter or it’s competition Kroger. There are also a couple Foodlion’s, Aldi & Lidl in the area but it’s still not enough for the amount of traffic within the 23831 & 23237 area. This closure even though it was 2 years ago it’s still being felt in our community from people losing their job and the inconvenience of having to travel to different stores to complete a grocery list and especially with the amount of people moving in this area I feel this needs to be re-evaluated by Walmart’s market team ASAP!
