Implementation of Wheelchair Accessible Carts in Corporate Stores

The Issue

Independence is a big thing for a lot of disabled people. Almost the second we start having issues with our bodies- whether from the day we are born or later on in life- we lose our independence little by little.

Our society has been built around abled people and their needs. There are often no accommodations for us- such as; stores that pack their merchandise so close together that a wheelchair cannot get through, shelves that are too high, doors that don't have the automatic open feature, and no wheelchair accessible carts. I have emailed all the companies listed and asked for assistance in implementing these accommodations and was met with answers along the lines of: "We support our disabled customers, but..." We're expected to use baskets that are often awkward to balance, call ahead to have a shopper assist us, or use pickup/delivery.

The end goal here is almost complete independence. When you're disabled, so much of your freedom is taken away- and when one is using a mobility aid- their access to their own life should not have to change.

In signing this - you are in support of large corporations adding wheelchair accessible carts to their stores, and hopefully making other accommodations for those using mobility aids.
