Biodegradable Crisp Packets

Biodegradable Crisp Packets

It’s time that crisp packaging is more eco friendly.
In Britain, we consume around 6bn packets of crisps (plus 4.4bn bags of other assorted savoury snacks) annually - that's more than everyone else in Europe put together, around 150 packets for each and every one of us each year. Old crisp packets from the 1960s onwards have been found washed up on our shores. Imagine - the vast majority of these billions of packs consumed every year will still exist for decades, after we are gone.
Walkers do currently have a return/recycle packet scheme but this is not enough and feels very much like greenwashing. Realistically, most people do not take part. It requires collection of packets and making a specific trip to locations that are out of the way and often inconvenient.
Currently there is a small UK crisp company making biodegradable packets from cellulose and eco friendly ink, which can be composted. There is no excuse for a massive company like Walkers (and others) to take responsibility and do similar, for the good of our oceans and planet.
