We, the undersigned residents, workers, and stakeholders of the City of Kalamazoo, Michigan, submit this petition to formally express a vote of no confidence in David Anderson, Mayor of Kalamazoo, and to call for his resignation from office.

During recent Kalamazoo City Commission meetings, including the January 5 meeting, residents repeatedly used public comments to express their deep dissatisfaction with the mayor’s leadership and the lack of public trust.

Multiple speakers directly called for Mayor Anderson to step down, stating that the city would be better served by leadership capable of responding effectively to current challenges.

Community concerns raised in public comment included, but were not limited to:

  • A lack of accountability and responsiveness to resident concerns
  • The tone and conduct of mayoral responses during public meetings
  • Repeated self-promotion in the face of worsening conditions in the city
  • Ongoing crises in housing, public safety, and community trust
  • A growing disconnect between City Hall and the lived experiences of residents

Public comment is a foundational element of local democracy. When a significant number of residents use that forum to express loss of confidence in their mayor — including direct calls for resignation — those concerns must be taken seriously.

This petition reflects documented public sentiment, not speculation or personal grievance.

For these reasons, we respectfully call on Mayor David Anderson to resign from office and allow for new leadership that can begin restoring trust, accountability, and effective governance in Kalamazoo.

This petition does not allege criminal wrongdoing.
It represents a civic vote of no confidence based on public record and community testimony.

This petition is based on public comments made during the January 5 Kalamazoo City Commission meeting, which is publicly available.
