Dear RMSFA Store Owner, Manager, and Vaping Ally,
The Colorado legislative session concluded on May 8, 2024.
We have good news to report!
Both flavor ban bills – Senate Bill 22 and House Bill 1356 – were defeated!
There are many people to thank, including my four talented lobbyist colleagues: Phil Hayes, Jenn Penn, Collon Kennedy, and Kiera Hatton. The five of us also partnered with many other lobbyists, consultants, and stakeholders to defeat these two bad, anti-adult vaping bills.
To recap, Senate Bill 22 would have allowed the 64 Colorado counties to individually and more easily ban flavored vaping products in their respective counties. The bill was defeated in February, 2024.
House Bill 1356 was gutted, rewritten, and inserted with a “strike below” – a rewrite into an enforcement bill so that the Colorado Attorney General can enforce
laws that prevent underage vaping sales to minors.
Finally, House Bill 1069 – a recycling study task force bill about vaping and marijuana products – also was defeated.
Overall, it was a very positive legislative session.
During the next eight months, we will focus on defeating anti-vaping local and municipal efforts. For example, there are already rumors that the City and County of Denver is reconsidering introducing a flavor ban that would destroy all 25 vape shops in Denver. More details to follow.
We always need to expand our membership at RMSFA so we are fully prepared to defeat prohibitionist efforts who do not understand or appreciate how vaping saves adults lives from combustible cigarettes.
Onward!
