Vote No on Expanding Riverview Elementary 2024

Vote No on Expanding Riverview Elementary 2024
The Issue
Riverside Families opposed to the expansion of Riverview Elementary with the current proposed plans (you may watch the presentation here: https://app.screencastify.com/v3/watch/3pyBq13CIEwvOSyJqVaW )
Please sign the following petition to ask our school board to please refrain from voting on this matter until they have a more feasible plan. Proposed voting is at the September 26th board meeting. It is our intent to share this with the school board before the meeting so that they may decide to take more time (and consider the wants of the actual district...70% polled voted for the Lamuth expansion plan vs. Riverview) before making such a big decision.
We urge the current board members to please do 3 things before voting to expand Riverview:
1) Be present during 3 lunchtimes while 5 classroom grades are in the lunchroom
2) Be present during recess when 5 classroom grades are on the playground.
3) Act as if you are a parent pickup up a student at school. Arrive around 3:20. Bonus points to watch as an observer another day for pickup.
Current concerns:
- No direct impact for families outside of the Riverview area
- Melridge/Buckeye 5th graders will be at Lamuth while Riverview and Parkside's 5th graders will remain in the elementary buildings (on different schedules, not equitable
- Parking is already vastly insufficient at Riverview. There is not currently enough room for 1 grade level to hold a function at the building (the new building plan does not add parking.
- The car pickup line is already past capacity-how can we add 240 new students and their cars? (the new building plan does not account for pickup line expansion)
- The cafeteria is already at capacity and not enough time for lunch. Lunch is currently served from 1040am-140...expanding the time is not an option. (the new building plan does not add cafeteria space nor an extra service window for serving lunch)
- The playground is already at max capacity with 5 classrooms out at a time (the new building plan does not address playground expansion).
