Raised by a proud Spanish man who built a life from nothing in the UK, I am deeply committed to the restoration of true democracy in the country he loves. My father arrived in Gatwick at 16, worked tirelessly in a hotel, and gradually built himself a life by refurbishing homes. His hard work and dedication to the UK inspire me to lobby for a political system that truly represents the diverse communities in our country - a truly Great Britain.

The goal of this petition is to scrap the existing system and establish a new 'People's House of Commons' that will represent average individuals from all walks of life in the UK. This would encompass people from varying economic backgrounds as well as diverse races, religions, and intellectual levels. Essentially, this new House would function like jury service where 20 individuals are randomly chosen to represent the wider population.

Such a system will lead to a more representative democracy, making space for real people to decide on laws and policies that affect them. Not only will decision-making be more diverse, but it will also bridge the disconnect between citizens and their government.

While currently, the UK House of Commons is made up of 92% of MPs who are more likely to have been privately educated, with this change, we hope to have a House of Commons that is a true reflection of the people it serves (source: Sutton Trust, 2019).
