Action needs be taken to improve the live stream viewing experience of CrossFit Games events. Certain commentators not only lack the knowledge and experience required to do the job, but their conduct and messaging on the live stream goes far beyond and is completely unprofessional. 

Some of the commentators have an incredibly negative tone, one in particular tries to guess what the athlete is going to do and then he points out when he was right, he is continually putting down the athletes, doubting their capabilities, disrespecting them, and undermining their decisions on the field, even when those decisions ultimately work to the athlete’s advantage. 

Some of the comments go far beyond their scope. Just in the first day of the granite games, one of the commentators made comments about one of the athlete’s kid’s hair colour. There seems to be little effort in providing background or information about the athletes, the venue, or the sport. They rely almost exclusively on experience and opinions to colour the coverage, which is limited.

There is a standard of professionalism and precedent set by other commentators within the sport of CrossFit and in other sports on how to provide clear, informative, and respectful commentary about athletes. It can be done.

Making changes to the CrossFit Games media team will positively impact the competition community because the athletes will no longer be subject to certain comments. This action will also greatly improve the enjoyment of the community of spectators who are only here to respect and support the athletes giving it their best on the competition floor.
