Vote Against the Proposed Middle School Rezoning Plan 1

The Issue

On December 13, 2022 at the Board of Education Work Session, Dr. Duncan presented Middle School Rezoning Plans to the Fayetteville Public Schools Board of Education. On December 15, 2022, the plans were presented at the FPS Board Meeting. The Board discussed removing plans 2 & 3 and voted to call a special meeting on January 26, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. to further discuss the options presented on the middle school attendance zones as well as review some new attendance zone scenarios. The plans can be found on the FPS website December 15, 2022 Meeting Agenda found here:  https://go.boarddocs.com/ar/fayar/Board.nsf/Public or direct google link here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1oDQFKFb1nc57PY1AfCCUzFFPHGlGG3tBQQoS2wds3kc/edit#slide=id.g1b2f76a96f2_0_0

The current proposed plan is taking the most far eastern kids in the district and removing them from their peers and bussing them across an already heavily congested roadway to a middle school on the opposite side of town. This will double the distance from their current middle school to their new middle school.  This will lengthen the commute for kids and parents which inhibits their ability to be rested and have a healthy learning environment. This proposed plan will also remove the children from many of their established friendships and place them in a new school environment with little established peer support.

Leaving the kids in their current middle school until a more fair, equitable and sustainable plan can be put in place is the right thing to do for the children and their education.

Action petitioned for:

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge the Fayetteville Public Schools Board of Education to vote AGAINST  Plan 1 of the Proposed Middle School Rezoning plans and leave middle school zoning as is until master plan with Phase II zoning.
