I’m an owner of a SEAT car (Model: Ibiza DSG 1600-2010, VIN: VSSZZZ6JZAR176551) who witnessed lately a terrible experience. When i bought this car in 2010 honestly a lot of people were skeptical about it saying that the service centre at the time is not good (SMG before Volkswagen-Egypt became the agent in 2014) yet the VW mechanics, great driving experience combined with the sleek designs made me overlook the bad customer service.
2 months ago, after just passing 55K km my gearbox CRASHED in the oddest of times . An initial diagnosis at the new service centre (Kayan egypt) was that there is something wrong with its mechatronics and i need to change it. Given that i did all services at the service center (5k, 10k, 30k and 40K, receipts proving this were handed to the new service center) and no issues were raised prior to the problem.
I surveyed the problem and found out that it’s very common in VW to the extent that in Nov 2013 they recalled 3 million cars worldwide over Faulty gearbox. The problem originates to the use of hi-tech synthetic gearbox oil instead of traditional mineral gearbox oil. "With vehicles with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DQ200), electric malfunctions could occur in the gearbox power supply if synthetic gearbox oil is used” - VW spokesman. And with hot and humid countries with frequent start and stop traffic, electric faults are most likely to occur, which is my case. It was the biggest recall in VW’s history. And the recall didn’t include EGYPT ofcourse !! Refrence from here.
My car has been in Kayan Egypt for 45 days waiting to get repaired. And today i got a call that the spare part (gearbox mechatronics) will take another 3 weeks to arrive. No compensation was offered and they are even negotiating with me to carry part of the expenses (23K EGP) of the new spare part.
If you suffered from a similar case and believe like myself that you have the right to be treated like a respectful customer who pays in his country double the price of the car’s value (after tariffs) and ironically gets the worst after sales service then SIGN THIS PETITION.
