Voices behind bars
The Issue
My baby brother has been incarcerated since Oct.2021 in Camp Verde (yavapai county) Arizona. This has been his 1st offense ever. He is facing est.3 years for something he knew nothing about while working trying to provide for his family for Mr. Barrios out of Oklahoma city ,Oklahoma And to make matters worse the arresting officer had allegedly been in trouble several times prior for wrongful arrests. Even after all the discrepancies and red flags in his case from the authorities side ,he still faces years of being apart from his family and new born son due any moment. The last court date for him to sign his J&S all of a sudden his name isn't on the docket for court! The attorney was there but conveniently his name wasnt down to go so needless to say it was postponed another month. Which puts him away even longer. The county he is in allegedly has/had been under investigation due to holding inmates longer than allowed and not following guidelines. Inmates are treated as if they are garbage and not worthy of respect ,or the time it takes for someone to listen as far as correctional officers, judges, prosecutors, attorneys etc: the justice system isnt for the people ,they are for themselves and all about the $ ,and will get it at all costs no matter how it affects others.I will do all I need to to be my brother's voice on the outside and help him and other inmates be treated with the upmost dignity and respect as the authorities expect to be treated. Just because someone is behind bars doesn't mean they are bad or criminals, and the authorities seem to forget that when they put on that uniform. A badge or judge's robe doesn't make someone better or more worthy of anything than an inmate. These men/women deserve to have their stories /voices heard in a reasonable amount of time as well as the authorities should be held responsible for not doing their job to insure inmates are well taken care and the right ones are behind bars instead of the innocent. and looked after and safe, just as they are .
The communication needs to be on point between judges, attorneys, jails, correctional officers, wardens, etc: they need to be more attentive to the needs of inmates and communication between staff so that these guys can be brought home instead of being in limbo
