Kyrsten Lea Sinema, born in 1976, is a prominent American politician, lawyer, social worker, and adjunct professor. She has been serving as the senior United States Senator from Arizona since 2019. Sinema began her political career as a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011, before moving to the Arizona State Senate from 2011 to 2013. She then represented Arizona's 9th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. Initially a member of the Democratic Party, Sinema switched to an independent stance in December 2022. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, a Master’s in Social Work from Arizona State University, a JD from Arizona State University College of Law, and a Doctorate in Justice Studies from the same university. As an adjunct instructor at Arizona State University and a former social worker, Sinema has a diverse professional background.
