Russia: Referendum on Whether to Restore the Soviet Flag

Russia: Referendum on Whether to Restore the Soviet Flag
The issue
A referendum is needed.
The abrupt fall of the Soviet Union was a major disaster for our nations. Families were torn, governments placed in disarray, the economy of Russia collapsed. The launch of capitalism in Russia was troublesome to say the least. We have seen Russia slowly vanish off the world stage in global influence. According to RT, most Russian's regret the fall of the Soviet Union, whilst even more would wish a return to the system (https://www.rt.com/politics/340158-most-russians-regret-ussr-has/)
Why the flag?
A flag represents far more than a system, a party, it represents pride. It's the badge of honour we wear with patriotism. The Russian flag does not represent Russia, it represents a fragment of history that nobody alive witnessed. It represents an oppressive but dead Tsarist regime. For history sakes, it remains the flag of Russia. We weren't given a choice in 1991. We got given this flag.
The Soviet flag represents much, much more though. Although the communist system collapsed, this flag represented more than just that. It had a connection to the people of Russia. Pride was embedded in it. People had a direct connection with it. It was a symbol of a global superpower, a rich past, a strong union. Most importantly, it was the banner that millions fought for in the Great Patriotic War. This is the flag people are connected with. This is the flag that is held in the hearts of the Russian people.
Why the referendum?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It would be foolish to think there is not opposition to this concept. Some people would see it as representing the shortfalls of the union, others will see it as representing the hope and pride of the people. That is why a decision needs to be left to the people. Soviet nostalgia is embedded in Russian society. A privotal decision like this needs to be left to the people. Mr. Putin and the Duma, consider a referendum. Let the people decide on our national icon for we didn't get to decide in 1991.
