Re-License and Redub the Wedding Peach anime for a North America Release
The Issue
It's been years since the Wedding Peach anime was licensed by ADV Films in North America as its currently not licensed as of right now. ADV Films did not market the series much in 2003-04 as the anime was not advertised as much as the English dub had poor reception as well as poor vocal direction and lacked proper script writing. The ADV releases were in single DVD sets that contained features from the Japanese version. The anime was also dubbed four times outside of Japan in South Korea as they updated their version of the dub in 2013. In the days after Sailor Stars finished dubbing in North America, when will Viz pick up another magical girl anime? I believe that Wedding Peach anime should be the one being looked into since it would fit their catalog and it is the sister show to Sailor Moon as the anime is currently headed to its 25th anniversary this April. Now is the time to rescue the anime under a new licensing deal with OLM (Oriental Light & Magic) since the anime was one of its first projects as the anime shared the same writers from the Sailor Moon anime. The criticism was that some people called Wedding Peach a Sailor Moon Ripoff which it isn't. I met Kyoko Hikami the Japanese voice of Momoko Hanasaki back in 2015 at PMX (Pacific Media Expo) and it was a memorable experience I would not forget. Her guest appearance at the con bought up the idea of the anime returning to the states.
Kazuko Tadano, the character designer from the first two seasons of Sailor Moon did the character designs for the Wedding Peach anime as well as sharing the same writer. In the days after the anime was unlicensed, there was no legal way to view the series online and out of print merchandise seen on Ebay for an arm and a leg. The anime's return to North America will open the door for merchandising as well as putting the subtitled versions on Hulu while the english dub would be in production at Studiopolis were the Sailor Moon anime was recorded. The anime is currently overdue for an updated english release. This upcoming April will mark the 25th Anniversary of the Wedding Peach anime. Nao Yazawa, the creator of Wedding Peach would chose the Voice Actresses for the characters she created like how Naoko Teckeuchi chose the VA's for the Viz Dub of Sailor Moon in 2014. Wedding Peach's return to North America would bring sales to the Remastered DVD/Blu-Ray sets including future anime releases compared to the previous releases by the defunct ADV films release. I know that Viz has the talent pool of LA based voice actresses to bring the character roles to life once the anime sees day of light again in North America if given the chance.
The Wedding Peach anime consists of 51 episodes, 4 OVA's and two shorts. I urge you fans to sign this in hopes to bring the anime back to North America. Tell Viz Media to make our voices heard. It may be a long shot but anything is possible.
