Visvesvaraya Technological University is one of the oldest universities awarding UG and PG degrees in Engineering and other streams with around 219 colleges and 3,25000 students* under its umbrella. Every student gives two examinations every year apart from many other Internal Assessments, Laboratory work, Projects and Internships results of which are published on the official VTU website results.vtu.ac.in. The result sheet consists of internal marks, external marks scored, total marks scored and the result(Pass or Fail) mentioned against each subject’s name and subject code. But to the disappointment of students, it carries neither CGPA nor the SGPA. This information is available in what we call original marks cards which will not be available immediately due to understandable reasons.

The students have been relying upon third party websites to know their CGPA and SGPA. Some websites offer us a calculator for calculating CGPA or SGPA whereas some have them ready. Sometimes the numbers on websites differ. Hence the students remain confused about it till the very time original marks cards are in their hands.

CGPA and SGPA form a crucial part of the journey as budding engineers. Apart from being the primary means of measurement of a student's performance, a lot of students also rely upon CGPA for availing private scholarships and other benefits. The overall SGPA plays a major role during final and pre final years in the wake of placements.

 

It is a very unfortunate fact that a lot of students in the final and pre final years even after studying Engineering for 2 or 3 years have no other option  but to run behind third party websites and still remain in confusion about their CGPA and SGPA. Knowing the exact values of CGPA and SGPA in a timely manner will go a long way in clearing these confusions and being confident about their own performances.

Talking about placements,the way students are expected to end engineering on a happy note is to land a job in some good company. All major companies set a cut off SGPA and a lot of students who are somewhere around the cut off ( according to SGPA calculated / taken from random websites) are left confused in deciding to apply just because they don't know the exact SGPA.

Hence I request you to consider our appeal of including CGPA and SGPA in the results that get published on the official website results.vtu.ac.in on a serious note. Also consider the following suggestions:

• For regular scenario: Include an additional column with CGPA and SGPA
• For revaluation scenario: Calculate CGPA and SGPA of the marks obtained before Revaluation and Publish. If the subjects are cleared in Revaluation, calculate the CGPA with new marks and publish in the exact same manner as that of the first attempt.
• For backlog subjects: Include yet another column in the result of the semester in which the subject was cleared carrying the marks of the cleared backlog subject and CGPA, SGPA of the semester to which cleared subject belongs to.

I would like to believe that VTU will take this request in good faith, understand the concerns and take appropriate measures to fulfill the requests expressed here.
