Ban single use bags in Virginia

The Issue

An estimated 100,000 marine animals are killed by plastic bags in our oceans every year. This startling amount is affecting all of us. Not only are plastic bags eaten after being mistaken for food, they are also ingested as micro plastics. Since plastic bags are not biodegradable they can't break down. They instead get to be really small becoming micro plastics. These micro plastics are super absorbent and they soak up pollutants and other toxins like a sponge. Since they are in the water supply, marine animals ingest them. They then stay in the food chain until we are ingesting these micro plastics.
