The students of Virginia Union University are asking that the administration change the grading system to Pass or Fail. Due to COVID-19 students have been subject to a lot of added stressors. They have had to deal with the many challenges of this pandemic including financial instability, the passing of family members, the challenges of online learning, and the displacement of student housing. During the summer many people were let go from their jobs and had to close down businesses. This had an enormous impact on students because many worked part time jobs during the semester to pay for tuition and other school replayed purchasers. But now that many states have opened back up students now have to work from the location in which that are doing online school. Working part-time during this time is a challenge itself main because those who’ll also be trying to stay safe also have to worry about trying to fulfill their professors’  requirements for a class. Students feel that because of the shorten semester Professors have been more focused on making sure they get through their entire lesson plan instead of making sure students actually understand the material. As students, we are attempting to meet these deadlines but now that we are witnessing, and living through the consequences of this pandemic, life has become more challenging for a student. Having said this while also worrying about classes and work COVID-19 has a negative impact on families. All of the students either know someone who has or catch the virus themselves.  As a result, students may have to attend funerals or make hospital visits. The closing of the campus to virtual learning forced students to leave campus. While the dorms provide an environment for students to be surrounded by others who are going through the same things as them. Now students are left without this force into a living situation that may not be optimal especially international students. Online school is a great alternative for learning to continue during this pandemic time but because of how inexperienced the professors are with this change it leaves some room for error this specifically affects the students who are in different time zones that are being forced to be available at an unreasonable time to either earn an attendance grade or fulfill an assignment deadline. All these factors are having a strong impact on a student's mental health.  A Pass or Fail option would give students. We the students of Virginia Union University are hoping that the administration would please change the grading system to Pass or Fail. So that our degrees don’t become another consequence of this pandemic.
