Amend the Code of Virginia: § 46.2-1063.
The Issue
Amend the Code of Virginia: § 46.2-1063. Alteration of suspension system; bumper height limits; raising body above frame rail: Paragraph 1 remove any and all lowered vehicle height limitations/ranges of allowance of fourteen inches to be amended to "... are not within the range of seven inches to twenty-two inches above the ground." Also to include any vehicles with Street Rod plate to a range of seven to twenty-two inches. Paragraph 3 to be amanded to replace all lowered vehicle heights from 14 inches to 7 inches. Paragraph 4 to be amended from "In the absence of bumpers, and in cases where bumper heights have been lowered, height measurements under the foregoing provisions of this section shall be made to the bottom of the frame rail." to "In the absence of bumpers, and in cases where bumper heights have been lowered, whether by frame rail modification or mounting bracket modification, height measurements under the foregoing provisions of this section shall be made to the bottom of the frame rail."
More and more vehicles are coming from the factory with vehicle heights lower than the Virginia Code limitations. Not only that but these laws are becoming outdated. Custom cars and trucks nowadays have adjustable suspensions whether it be manual or pneumatic suspensions. As long as these vehicles do not come into contact with the ground or that the tires do not come into contact with the body during normal operation then there should be no limit as to how low a vehicle should be lowered. Lowered vehicles also have better headlight illumination to the ground making it safer to use especially during operation at night and also have a lower center of gravity making it harder for rollover accidents.
