Virginia Closure, Free Will, and The Right to Choose to Gather.
The Issue
Today, Friday, November 13, 2020 the Governor of Virginia, announced that private gatherings above 25 people would be prohibited and increased health practices would be enforced by government agencies. This however does NOT include restaurants but only affects private “gatherings.”
As a female run, small business entrepreneur running a winery and wedding/events venue this will again have unparalleled and devastating consequences to my business. I believe the people have the right to gather and it is not the government’s place to control the bodies of our businesses patrons. I have happily complied time and time again with several sanctions imposed by this administration and have added at personal and family expense a number of measures to ensure to minimize potential exposure. However these newly imposed sanctions are not only absurdly restrictive they are inherently bias and vague. Allowing some businesses/restaurants to allow patrons and others to have to severely restrict or close completely.
I am hoping to write this petition to bring awareness to the basic fact that the government is removing your personal freedoms and your right to gather privately. These new regulations are not across the board and play obvious favorites in the business sector of Virginia.
I believe the people of Virginia have the right to gather privately and protect themselves as the see fit. I am petitioning to garner signatures to allow the PEOPLE not the government to make decisions about private social gatherings.
I don’t believe that this is a Republican or Democrat sided issue, and I would be more at ease if these regulations were not just geared to privately held events. This is about a small business (and many others) that has complied above and beyond to regulatory measures including sanitation stations, regularly cleanings during private events, social distancing of households, temperature checks, mask adherence, and much more.
I’m asking/pleading for the number limitation be lifted for private events and that the people be given the right to gather in private settings.
