Stop unfair parole board practices

The Issue

My name is Pernell Jefferson. I'm reaching out to those of you that believe in "second chances" for those that have served a considerable amount of time in prison. Who believe in forgiveness and rehabilitation for those that have served more than half their life in prison. I am 58 years old and have done 32 years in prison on a life sentence with the possibility of parole. I was convicted of murder and have taken full responsibility for my actions. I am remorseful and have made great strides in my rehabilitative efforts. I was under the influence of performance enhancement drugs and in a fit of rage I took someone's life. Not an excuse just an explanation.

I am a graduate of Guilford College class of 1986. An All American football player that signed an NFL contract but walked away from it because of the pressures to succeed. While incarcerated I have taught treatment programs on anger management, co-instructed a college course associated with Mary Baldwin College called "Prison and Punishment, taught Educationally Straight programs for at risk youths.

I put my life on the line saving a correctional officer from bodily harm yet still I'm denied parole.

I'm the father of a former decorated police Sgt. and the grandfather of 2.

To  those forgiving individuals out there I ask your support in a petition against the unfair practices of the Virginia Parole Board that are negatively effecting my release. For those that have a negative opinion I respect that but I'm just as human as you. Of the flesh we are not perfect.

Share my story with friends on Facebook and other social media outlets. You can make a difference. You can make a change.

If you would like to learn more about me and the horrific parole conditions in Virginia I can be reached at JPay.com, Pernell Jefferson #1016207.

Letters of support can be mailed to Honorable Chadwick Dotson Virginia Parole Board 6900 Atmore Dr. Richmond, VA 23225 and Governor Glenn Youngkin Patrick Henry Bldg. 1111 E. Broad St. Richmond, VA 23219
