Protect Black Communities and say NO to the Green Ridge Mega-Landfill in Virginia!!
Why this petition matters

For generations, Black communities have been plagued by threats to their health and safety. And the Green Ridge Recycling and Disposal Facility seeks to continue this shameful cycle by placing a mega-landfill in Cumberland County, VA. Not only does this mega-landfill threaten the water and air quality for the local community, but it also disrespects a historical Black landmark that the community treasures – the Pine Grove School. We must stop this vicious cycle and protect our Black communities!
The Pine Grove Elementary School is a testament to the many challenges our Black communities have conquered over generations and was one of thousands of “Rosenwald Schools” constructed in the South to educate Black children in the Jim Crow era. It represents an important part of America’s heritage, and we must not let the Green Ridge company tarnish its rich history.
As an organization dedicated to providing a voice for Black Americans, we strongly oppose this mega-landfill and all it stands for. This land belongs to Black history and must be protected! Don’t let another big business come in and threaten the health of yet another Black community! Tell the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and Governor Northam to REJECT this mega-landfill and stand behind the people of Cumberland County!
