Remove the Avanti Resort in Orlando from Virgin Holidays / TUI holiday packages

The Issue

Following the sad news of the demise of Thomas Cook, thousands of people had their holiday plans cancelled or disrupted and thousands more individuals lost their jobs.

Since the news broke there have been numerous reports of shocking behaviour by the Avanti Resort in Orlando, a hotel used by Thomas Cook customers. Reports include:

  • Within 24 hours of the company going bust Avanti had emailed previous guests saying that Thomas Cook had not paid them for their hotel rooms and demanding that the customers pay for their holiday all over again! Where they hold card details from 'incidentals' they are also charging customers credit cards without permission.
  • Current guests have reported being locked out of their rooms until payment is made.

Thousands of hotels worldwide are affected in the same way, yet Avanti is the only one being this aggressive and pursuing innocent British holidaymakers. The credit terms they offered Thomas Cook and whether or not they were paid is a dispute between them and the administrators, and people who have paid for their rooms in good faith should not be suddenly expected to pay thousands of pounds again. Well run companies would also have credit insurance to protect them from events like this.

On Tuesday afternoon Avanti posted another defiant Facebook post. The public reaction to their stance on social media has been brutal and clear, and I am sure  the damage being done to their brand far outweighs the cost of the unpaid rooms, yet they are still refusing to back down.

I feel this shows corporate greed to the extreme at a time that is so distressing for so many people, and once the dust has settled I feel a reasonable person would not want to support this company going forward.

The Avanti Resort is currently offered by many other leading tour operators including Virgin, TUI and BA - sign this petition to stop support for this company and its abhorrent actions.
