Virgin Active ... Listen to your members!
The Issue
We, the current and recently resigned members of Virgin Active Bromley ask Virgin Active to note that the club has put in place and maintains the following changes as compared to the programmes previously provided:
- removal of Les Mills Body Attack and Body Balance from the exercise programme;
- removal of HIIT, Cardio Mix and Body Conditioning classes from the programme (previously delivered by some of the club’s most popular and motivational instructors, who as a result are now no longer teaching at the club);
- shortened Body Pump, Body Combat and Body Jam classes, which are reduced to 45 minute format, rather than the full 55 minute format; yoga classes reduced from 90 or 75 mins to 60 mins with resultant removal of the meditation elements;
- The permanent installation of Pilates reformer beds into one of the two group exercise studios, leaving members with only one studio within which cardio based group exercise classes can be conducted; the moving of all yoga classes to a smaller studio so limiting the number of participants;
- A limited group exercise timetable with too few Les Mills classes resulting in long waiting lists and difficulty in booking onto classes;
- A limit of a maximum 7 classes per week onto which members are able to book.
All of the above are a significant reduction in quality and value for money for members of the Bromley club.
There has been no member consultation about the changes either before or after the changes were made.
Membership fees have remained the same whereas the service provision has significantly diminished.
Members’ fitness and gym experience is suffering as a result of these changes.
Many members have cancelled or are considering the cancellation of their membership.
We petition that VA should enable the Bromley club to:
- Reinstate Body Attack and Body Balance onto the group exercise programme and retain Body Combat, Body Pump and Body Jam
- Reinstate HIIT, Cardio Mix and Body Conditioning classes (as previously offered on the VA timetable)
- Reinstate full 55 minute Les Mills class formats and full 75 or 90 min yoga classes
- Reinstate unlimited number of bookable classes per week
- Increase the weekly number of Les Mills classes on the timetable
