On Monday 6th October, I met with Leeds City Council’s Highways team and our local councillors Adrian McCluskey, Kate Haigh, and David Blackburn to discuss the ongoing road safety issues on Thornhill Road and the surrounding area.
The good news:
Councillors fully support the campaign and have recognised the danger and frustration we all live with daily.
The council has agreed to repaint road markings and review additional signage to improve visibility and safety.
Our petition and evidence pack will now be escalated to senior management for further review.
The reality:
Current council criteria mean no physical traffic-calming measures (like speed humps or chicanes) will be installed — because average speeds recorded are “within limits” and the number of recorded collisions isn’t high enough to qualify.
That means, in short, someone will need to be seriously hurt before the road meets the threshold for major action.
Despite this, the councillors were fully behind us, and the discussion opened the door for progress — and accountability. Every single signature, share, and comment adds weight to our case and helps keep the pressure on.
