Villanova Provide Better Dining Service

The Issue

Despite experiencing challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, such as suffering staff shortages and supply chain issues, the quality of food provided through dining services at Villanova University have been inadequate and disappointing. On Saturday, January 15th, a student reported having found a maggot in her meal provided by the university through her mother in the parents’ page. This is not the first time that this has occurred, and with this petition, I hope for it to be its last.

I truly do appreciate the university for having consistently updated the Villanova community on these issues, including the recent January 2022 message from dining services on their website. Within that message, the dining hall services states “we continue to be committed to providing excellent service to the entire Villanova community.” Yet, this is not enough. Actions have to be taken to assure that the quality of food which a student receives is free from maggots, is cooked to the best of its ability, and is ultimately healthy. Additionally, students and families are paying a considerable amount of money for their meal plans. The top tier meal plans range from $7,150 to $7,770 per semester, and the second tier ranging from $5,920 to $6,500 per semester. Of course, not every student has these particular plans; however, this is just an idea of how much students have to pay

More work has to be done to solve this quality crisis. Again, there may not be an immediate solution due to staff shortages and supply chain issues that are impacting the university, but an apology and a message from the dining services website is simply not enough. Food should be thoroughly inspected before it is served to the student population.

Please do better.
