Pornographic content has very loose restrictions on Twitter, which is (obviously) a continuously growing social media platform that is being used by younger and younger users. There is NOTHING stopping 11 year olds (who supposedly aren't supposed to be on twitter, but it's quite easy to get around the age 13 age limit) from clicking on an account that posts pornographic content; they could be exposed to it without really knowing what it is, and this is not healthy. Porn is fantasy/an act, but for some who are so young, it could essentially be their "sex-ed." Aside from the youth, it is a frustrating thing that avoiding graphic pornographic/semi-pornographic material on such a widely popular non-pornographic website is so difficult. The harmful effects of porn are being scientifically tested and validated every day, and its normalization is a large problem in our society. I think heavier restrictions on a popular website such as Twitter would be a large step in fighting the normalization of porn in everyday life, and at the least, it could protect younger users from accidentally seeing adult content. Twitter is a great platform for people of all ages to stay connected and reach people, and I think most of us would like it to stay that way. I am asking Twitter to make much stricter guidelines as to what is appropriate, preferably completely outlawing nudity on their website, and I'm asking you to help make this happen!
