Dear Supporters,
This past Friday evening, a major horse carriage incident occurred on the streets of Victoria.
Eye witnesses at the scene said that the horse bolted full speed down Menzies street with a driver in the carriage, the horse rounded the corner on Superior, hit the bike curb and then a pole. According to the eyewitness, the carriage and the horse flipped onto their sides sending the driver and the horse to the ground. The horse was down for some time and the carriage driver was apparently taken to hospital by ambulance. There was clear evidence of bloody injuries on the horse, but the horse did get up and was attended to by a vet, and was eventually taken away.
According to carriage staff, the horse's bridle fell off after he was rubbing himself on the hitching post and this caused him to bolt. However, carriage staff have downplayed and minimized the seriousness of this incident in the media and on social media, as they have lied numerous times in the past, so we are working to collect further information to verify their claims.
We do hope the driver and horse are okay, and that the city of Victoria takes this event seriously, as it is just one more in a long line of incidents. Please write mayor and council at mayorandcouncil@victoria.ca and tell them to ban the horse carriage industry in Victoria now!
Thank you for your continued support.
