Dear Supporters,

Last week, Canada, B.C., and Victoria experienced the most severe heat wave in our history with temperatures of 35C and up recorded.  Environment Canada labeled this a "dangerous" heat wave with businesses being shut down and people dying due to the extreme temperatures for the region.

Despite this significant welfare concern, horse carriages continued to operate through Friday and Saturday in the blistering heat, finally stopping on Sunday after significant public backlash.

It was because of Victoria Horse Alliance members who documented the horses being forced to work that the public knew about this profit-driven disregard for animal welfare. Sadly, in Victoria there are no regulations on the temperatures horses can be worked in or even the number of hours they can be forced to work.

We need your continued support to show the mayor and council of Victoria that enough is enough. If the city is going to allow this inhumane industry to continue, then the very least they must do is regulate the temperatures that horses can be forced to work in.

With the extreme weather effects of climate change only going to get worse, we need to have these protection in place now, not after it is too late. In fact, they are already years overdue with other cities where horse carriages operate having these restrictions in place for years.

Please continue to sign and share the petition to tell Victoria mayor and council that profit should never come before the welfare of the horses being exploited on city streets to needlessly amuse tourists.

Thank you for your continued support. We will keep fighting until the horse carriages are banned.
