Vicksburg High School Class of 2022 Graduation Petition
The Issue
The VHS class of 2022, would like to propose a change to the graduation ceremony. Instead of graduating at the Vicksburg Convention Center as previously stated, we would like the chance and opportunity to graduate on the VHS football field. We have recently been aware of the fact that we will only receive 10 tickets for graduation, but we propose that this graduation becomes ticketless. As COVID-19 has disrupted many plans throughout previous years, we would like the chance to celebrate our accomplishments with our class and family members for the first time in 2 years. Listed below are reasons why we think this could be possible and how it will affect those around us.
The past 2021-2022 football season was not limited to a certain number of people where there was no mask mandate. Due to this, we would like the same stipulations when it comes to graduation.
Some seniors have larger families that would like to commemorate this momentous occasion by their side. Some students in our class come from low income families, so having a party to celebrate after graduation would be increasingly hard for some.
We have 4 sets of bleachers that can be used. To help with viewing, we propose that the stage and graduate seating can be turned to face the endzone, so that there will be equal viewing from both sides
Graduation is set to begin at 6:00p.m. which means that the hottest part of the day will be gone and guests will be able to sit and watch comfortably
Homecoming, football, and soccer games were held on the field where heels and cleats were worn, so holes were placed in the grass. There can be a rule set in place that all females must wear block heels or flats, so that there will not be holes in the grass.
Parents of the VHS Class of 2022 feel that since their taxes helped pay for the new field, there should be other events held on it other than sports games.
Rules can be set in place that designates a “cut-off” time, which will stop visitors from entering in order to keep the program going without disruptions. Other rules can be added if need be such as a designated drop off spot for distracting gifts such as balloons.
All in all, we would love to enjoy the last moment our class has together on a field that has brought us many memories on our school’s campus. We hope you take these thoughts into consideration, and help us reach a compromise
