Implement Excused Mental Health Days at Purdue University

The Issue

There is mounting scientific evidence that shows how beneficial mental health days can be for students of all ages. According to Mental Health News, “In the past two years, several states, including Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Nevada, Oregon, and Virginia, have passed bills allowing students to miss school for mental health reasons.” College can and is already quite a stressful time for any young adult, and with the recent COVID pandemic managing our mental health and overall wellbeing is quite challenging. I propose excused mental health days to be used with respect to our educators and professors so that we may take the time we need to rest, and recharge. Please sign this petition if you feel that having the ability to take an excused absence from class when you are feeling overwhelmed or burnt out would greatly improve your academic experience. Thank you!
