Via6 - Removal of Sewage Capacity Charge at 2121 6th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98121-Via6 Apartments: Owner of Via6 Apartments to stop passing this cost through to their tenants
The Issue
This is a 15 year term cost to the building owner per King County. The total cost - known prior to construction as it has been in place since 1990, estimates close to $4M which the building owner is passing back making the residents pay for their construction costs on our residental water/sewer bills as a "capacity charge". This was not disclosed to us, nor have I ever seen it passed back to any tenants in my 12 years in property management and living downtown. The owner should be paying this cost, not us. Not only is this an added, unexpected cost to us, for myeslf being a single resident, its 1/3 of my entire monthly bill.
Construction costs are not normal standard utility charges, plus this violates the municipal code of billing back a total amount larger than the actual SPU bill.
