VHCS Covid-19 Reporting Transparency Petition
The Issue
Given the increase in Covid-19 infections statewide and locally in the Vestavia City Schools, we (the) parents feel more data is necessary to better make decisions as to keep our children in school or to send our children back to school. We are requesting that more detail be provided to parents to include: (1) the number of infections listed per school; (2) the number of infections broken down by staff versus students; and (3) the number of positive cases versus quarantined cases. Similar information is being provided by other Alabama school systems including but NOT limited to Birmingham City Schools, Madison County Schools, Homewood City Schools, and Auburn City Schools. Here is a live example of Madison County School System's reporting and similar to what we are asking: https://www.mcssk12.org/Page/13112?fbclid=IwAR0GevOu0tC_eeiPIv86wwjXoMTBbtzRH9lbgtcxjQlUe9rWbrGpXp8m5R4. If names and other personal data are not listed then there is no HIPPA or FERPA violation and these other school systems recognize this.
According to the Beliefs of the VHCS Mission; Transparency inspires trust, Every Voice Deserves to be Heard, and Health and Wellness are vital to quality of life. We ask that VHCS simply follow their stated Beliefs by responding the parents' requests to provide them with more transparency, the same transparency that is being provided to other parents across the state to better make informed decisions that may effect the health of our families and community.
