Verizon to enable RCS Universal Profile on their devices.

The Issue

Verizon agreed in 2019 that they would start working on getting RCS Universal Profile support on their devices.

All of their current literature states that their only device that supports this in the devices stock messaging app in the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. Advanced messaging is supported in all current Samsung phones as well as others but yet is disabled because Verizon refuses to adapt RCS to their network.

Users should not be forced to use Google Messages to get Universal advanced messaging, or their Verizon Message + app, which only supports advanced messages to other Verizon devices using that app. Verizon needs to get with the times and get RCS UP 1.0 integrated into their network. Referenced below are articles about Verizon stating they would start working on RCS and their current articles showing which "devices" support it.

Several times customers have reached out to Verizon, link and their reps keep pointing those customers to the outdated article on how to enable advanced messaging and that article states it is only available on the Samsung S9. Let's push Verizon to update their network and get proper RCS support..

But now you may be asking yourself, well what the heck is RCS and why should I sign this petition. RCS is Rich Communication Services, and gives a message app the ability to have Apple iMessage like capability. It also large group chats to take place in your messaging app, as well as sending higher quality and larger photos and videos. It gives users a typing indicator to let them know that someone is typing back to them. It gives a user a notification to a user that their message has been delivered to their recipient and when they read it, it will let them know. Also if you would like, here is a great article that explains RCS in more detail.
