Add a Bus Rapid Transit Alternative to the Ventura County 101 Corridor Study

The Issue

Ventura County is currently studying the future of the 101 and how it will impact our communities and the county's future development. Although the study is forward-looking, it fails to consider an alternative where public transportation can provide solutions for or mitigate many of our car-centric transportation system's inadequacies: congestion, inaccessibility, noise, air pollution, and inflexibility.

We urge the Ventura County Transportation Commission to add the study of a high-quality Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line to their list of alternatives for the future of the 101. BRT is a cost-effective way at providing high-quality public transportation, and has demonstrated its success all over the world, including our neighboring San Fernando Valley's Orange Line. BRT gives an option to frustrated commuters, seniors, students, and carless households to get around Ventura County without driving and looking for parking or waiting for the undependable VCTC intercity buses, which are often stuck in traffic.

Ventura County is a world-class place to live. It deserves to plan a world-class transportation system.
