Over the years, there have been many accidents and near accidents at this intersection involving both pedestrians and cars. I believe that we need either a traffic light or all way stop sign at this intersection. Even if it is just a pedestrian crosswalk stop light.

I have seen many pedestrians over the years almost get hit by a car because of the speed in which people drive on Monument Drive and have to run or rush across the street hoping not to get hit. This is a very busy intersection for people walking their dogs, walking to the shopping center, exercising, walking with their children and strollers. 

For me personally, I have anxiety and crossing this intersection is scary for me. Several years ago my close family member totaled his car because somebody was speeding so fast on Monument Drive they didn’t see that he that was turning left off of Fair Ridge Dr.

THINK ABOUT THE KIDS! Some of our children have to walk across Fair Ridge Dr. from the school bus and some are scared to go across with cars rushing out of the neighborhoods.

I urge you to sign this petition for VDOT to finally listen and install a traffic light or an all way stop sign here for the safety of all of us.
