The good news first, the Scottish Government has agreed to look seriously at completely banning Disposable Single-Use Vapes, by having further consultations with experts, the public, Westminster, Welsh and Irish Parliaments. This could mean that no decision will be made until next year. That is simply not good enough.
I will be submitting my views to the consultation and will argue that we have all the evidence we need, with more and more teens getting addicted every day, to nicotine and the vaping industry trying to normalise this form of vaping, by installing enormous vaping displays out in the main isles of their stores. See the photo above of Sainsbury's display.
The bad news, the number of young women vaping daily has tripled in the last year.
More bad news, the environmental problems of dumping of vapes has now got completely out of control. Five million Disposable Single-Use Vapes are being dumped in the UK, every week, up from the 1.5 million earlier this year.
Research by Material Focus, a non-profit recycling campaigning group, has revealed that in the UK - 73% of 16-18 year olds say they just throw away their old vapes.
Solving these problems is very simply - by banning completely, Disposable Single-Use Vapes can stop in its tracks the new drugs misuse trend affecting teens, and the serious environmental problems such vaping causes.
