Bring Back Vanderbilt Rocket Subs

The Issue

Last year, the Vanderbilt University Administration announced the closure of the Rocket Sub locations in favor of hot bar and vegetable butcher options. Having been a Highland Quad resident for a year, I have to say that this was a huge mistake and greatly impacted the quality of food available to students.

Rocket Subs provided students with a nutritious, filling, and unique dining option that has since been denied in favor of low calorie and lesser quality options. I ate hot bar food at least once a day for the past two semesters. This experience consisted of very poor quality food compared to the rest of campus, unclear or small portion sizes, and a very limited weekly food rotation. Moreover, the vegetable butcher option is something very rarely utilized by students. This option requires students to sacrifice sides or entrees for between 1-3 fruits or vegetables.

Rocket Sub locations offered students a variety of sandwich and soup options, as well as the use of the Munchie Mart selection (Chips, drinks, coffee, etc). While a "vegetable butcher" may look good on paper and is nice to tell alumni and prospective students, in reality it is a very weak and misguided dining option. When I need a quick and filling lunch before class or dinner at the end of a busy day, a cucumber or three tomatoes is of no interest to me. Give me some bread, meat, cheese, and soup... not raw vegetables or slop in a metal heating tin.

Overall, I feel that it is safe to say the Rocket Sub stations are a favored dining option amongst students and reverting Hot Bar and Vegetable Butcher stations back to these sub stations would benefit a much larger portion of the student body than last year's changes.

No, I don't want a bell-pepper for breakfast.

No, I don't want to use a side on three lemons.

No, I am not going to bring a Highland Munchie Mart eggplant to my 1pm physics class. Give me a sandwich.

Join me in bringing back the glory of Rocket Subs by supporting this petition. Thank you.
