Save the Bighorn Sheep

Help the Eagle Valley community to save the bighorn sheep population.  Vail Resorts and Triumph Development want to develop the Bighorn Sheep’s critical winter range; habitat which biologists say is crucial to the Bighorn Sheep's survival in the Gore Valley.

While Triumph Development and Vail Resorts have touted the project as "workforce housing," they have also proposed townhomes and retail space as part of the development.  This profit-driven decision will cause irreparable harm to the landscapes and wildlife that inhabit the area.  This vision excludes the natural beauty and majesty of the bighorn sheep that draws people to the Eagle Valley.

Affordable workforce housing is essential, but there are better options.  A large workforce housing complex is included in the plans for Vail Resorts' new "Ever Vail" development, which would be built on land far less sensitive than the Bighorn parcel.  Private developments such as Sonnenalp Hotel’s workforce housing and the 240 apartments proposed for Avon could provide much needed workforce housing alternatives in the area.  Additionally, other less environmentally sensitive areas can be developed in Vail, such as at Timber Ridge or Middle Creek.

Join us in asking the mayor and the Vail Town Council to acquire the parcel and protect it permanently as open space to benefit Colorado's State animal. Lets demand equitable, sustainable housing solutions for our community.
