UTEP Title IX Petition

The Issue

On August 14th, new Title IX regulations will allow universities like UTEP to sweep sexual violence under the rug. College students are 3-5 times more likely to experience sexual violence, assault and harassment. Students should NOT fear violence while pursuing an education at a university. Students should be PROTECTED by their institutions

Betsy DeVos' new changes will allow schools to dismiss complaints that occur OFF campus**, which excludes a vast majority of students. The new rules will allow cross examination by the perpetrators parents, friends, fraternity brothers and sorority sisters.*** The definition of sexual harassment is now becoming stricter, meaning the acts MUST be more severe and offensive. Students can now only file complaints to someone who attends your university, meaning students will have to turn to police for accountability. These changes WILL re-victimize survivors and WILL prevent students from coming forward with claims of sexual violence. Any sort of liability is now erased from universities and WILL allow them to cover up acts of violence.

There is still time to act. UTEP can still enforce policies that will protect students, while following federal regulations. UTEP students deserve to feel safe and heard on their campus.

Please sign to demand UTEP to take a stance for their students.
