Stop the Switch for Utah Daylight Saving Time!

Stop the Switch for Utah Daylight Saving Time!

The Issue

Utahns continually show poll results that indicate that they want the state of Utah to be permanently removed from the Daylight Saving Time program (i.e. http://utahpolicy.com/index.php/features/today-at-utah-policy/3883-poll-a-plurality-of-utahns-want-to-ditch-daylight-savings-time).  Yet year after year when the option is brought up in congress, it is soundly rejected at the request of the state's farming and entertainment industries (i.e. golfing).  The legislature is unwilling to take on the issue due to the disagreement between industries.  Study after study is starting to soundly show that 1) the switching back and forth between DST is a direct cause to several issues surrounding the days of the switch (car accidents, health related issues, etc.), 2) a move to Mountain Daylight Time (MDT, more daylight at the end of the day) is more beneficial than MST (more daylight at the beginning) and 3) the world's current 24 hour lifestyle has removed much of the need for DST to even exist. It's time, once and for all, for the Utah legislative body to take on the issue, remove Utah from the DST time switch, permanently adopt the MDT timeframe and gain the benefits of the later light in the day and the lack of the switch.  Regardless of which timeframe is adopted, it's time to tell Utah to Stop the Switch!
