Many places in the US were named as "Redskin" to represent that native people once inhabited the area. Today the term "redskin" is a jarring pejorative. I would like to change the name of Redskin Lake in Lake County MN to honor our Native population rather than diminish them. 

The Objiwe tribe was one of two major tribes that lived in Minnesota also lived in Michigan, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Ontario. They were one of the first tribes to welcome Europeans to the area and by the late 1700 traded furs with the French. 

A name change is a simple thing to do, but sends a powerful message that ties us and our everyday words to the people who lived in this land before us, and still live here today.
