Use income from the Glasgow Visitor Levy to rejuvenate the River Clyde!
The Issue
The Clyde was once the heart of Glasgow but it's now a lifeless place with little appeal for Glaswegians or visitors to the City. Other Cities throughout the world celebrate their rivers but it seems like we've turned our back on the Clyde.
The Council is considering the introduction of a Visitor Levy, an additional 5% charge to be added to the cost of accommodation in the City. It’s estimated that this could generate funds of £12,500,000 per year. The money raised from the Levy must be used to fund improvements in the City.
We think that the Visitor Levy presents a great opportunity to fund the improvements and events that are needed to make the Clyde a riverfront that rivals the best in other cities. Delivering on the regeneration of the river could boost tourism and increase Glasgow's appeal, contributing significantly to the local economy. Perhaps more importantly it will give Glaswegians a river that they can be proud of again!
Show your support by signing the petition to urge the Council to dedicate some of the income from the proposed Visitor Levy towards the rejuvenation of Glasgow's waterfront. After signing the petition please complete the Council’s formal consultation at the following link:
