Friends,
As part of our continued effort to keep you updated on the situation surrounding Nosey, we send this latest update.
Yesterday, CWI was notified by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) that the Liebel family has chosen to appeal the FWC's decision to deny the Liebel permit application for the continued keeping of Nosey in Florida. The family filed the appeal on Friday, July 7th, and as of yesterday it was in legal review at the FWC.
CWI has already requested further information regarding the appeal. Once we have an update on the status of the appeal, or any action items able to be taken, we will update this petition once again.
At this juncture, CWI is working with an attorney experienced in dealing with the FWC in Florida and has secured the assistance of key Nosey advocates in Florida. Yesterday, one advocate spoke loudly on behalf of Nosey in front of the FWC, requesting they maintain their permit denial and provide a path for sending Nosey to sanctuary.
Hugo Liebel was also present. His message was clear and concise: "I will not give her up."
It is clear, despite rumors that he may be willing to sell her at some juncture, that his intent is to maintain ownership of Nosey. This means we must be clear with the FWC and the USDA that Nosey deserves sanctuary, not a life alone as a traveling elephant forced to perform in the circus.
Presently, Nosey is not in Florida and is performing at the Great Lakes Medieval Faire in Ohio through August 13 under her USDA permit. Please boycott this event! If you are able to attend in order to monitor Nosey's well-being, please contact us at info@cwint.org.
Thank you all for your continued interest in Nosey and for helping us to pursue a better life for her. As always, we ask that you keep sharing and spreading the word about Nosey's plight, and the plight of all animals confined to the circus.
Finally, if you appreciate CWI's work to end circus cruelty, we hope you will consider supporting us by making a tax-deductible donation of any amount at cwint.org/donate. We are a very small organization, and every dollar matters!
We will post a new update as soon as possible when we have more information regarding the Liebel's appeal of the FWC decision.
Thank you once again for caring.
For the animals,
Carrie
