Dear friends of Nosey, The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) have chosen to deny the Liebel family's request for a formal administrative appeal of the FWC's denial of their permit to continue to keep Nosey. The FWC felt that the Liebels had not submitted any information which would prompt them to change their decision. This was a huge step by the FWC and should be applauded! At this juncture, the Liebel family could 1. submit more information to make another attempt to gain a formal administrative appeal, or 2. request to proceed with an "informal" appeal. We have reviewed the entire appeal package sent by the Liebel family to the FWC and do not believe the Liebel family will be able to submit any information that will enable them to obtain a formal administrative appeal hearing process. They have admitted that they did not properly notify the FWC of information that should have been submitted as part of their permit package. It is unclear at this time whether holding an informal appeal proceeding will improve their ability to obtain a permit for Nosey. However, it does not appear that would be the case. Despite that, we assume the Liebel family will proceed with the informal appeal proceeding. In summary: presently, while the appeal process is ongoing, the Liebels are still permitted by the FWC. To use Nosey in shows outside of Florida, their permit with the FWC is irrelevant, as they are permitted nationally by the USDA. Nosey is performing at the Great Lakes Medieval Faire in Ohio presently, and will be there for several more weeks. CompassionWorks International (CWI) is calling for a boycott of that event. The Liebels still have many courses of action that they could take to retain ownership and use of Nosey, but--the good news is-- one of the primary paths appears to be closing on them. While this situation is complicated, we feel strongly about continuing to update you on what is taking place for Nosey. We are no longer able to respond to comments on the petition due to a change in procedures at Change.org, but if you have any questions, please email us at info@cwint.org. Thank you again for your continued interest in Nosey and for helping CWI to pursue a better life for her. Finally, if you appreciate CWI's work to end circus cruelty, we hope you will consider supporting us by making a tax-deductible donation of any amount at cwint.org/donate. We are a very small organization, and notice and appreciate your support! A special thank you to those who have already donated! In pursuing their request for an appeal, Hugo Liebel claimed that the lives of the Liebel family would "fall apart" if they were unable to continue to keep Nosey. We hope that the Liebels choose to move toward being an "animal-free circus" and work toward providing a life for Nosey in which she is not subjected to doing potentially life-threatening tricks or having to be chained or constantly traveling. One we receive word of the informal hearing, and what has taken place, we will update this petition once again. Thank you, as always, for caring. For the animals, Carrie Carrie LeBlanc, M.A. Executive Director CompassionWorks International
