Fix The Immigration Court System & Protect The Children

Fix The Immigration Court System & Protect The Children
The Issue
The United States constantly throws defenseless children in immigration courts without any representation. Many of whom do not know the language and are as young as 2 years old. Imagine a family member of your's being that age and forced to tackle something as complex as immigration. Being pushed to what is often a life or death decision because they're running away from gang violence, death threats or extreme poverty. The reason why is because the difference between regular Criminal Courts and Immigration Courts is that the ladder does not require a public defendant if the accused cannot afford one. Which leaves 63% of immigrants (again, who in many cases do not know the language) without an attorney to properly defend their case.
Another factor contributing to this disaster of a system, is the amount of people and facilities left in charge of these cases. Currently, there are only 60 immigration courts scattered across the United States and have to conduct hundreds- if not- thousands of cases a day. Many of those judges are overworked and drained on a daily basis.
We must demand for the hiring of more judges who will do their job properly and handle each case with care. And more importantly, to stop the government from letting literal children go up to represent themselves in court because it is cruel and just shows how low this government will go just to set up immigrants for failure.
